The Capitol Kid - A Backstory
Azure was a Capitol kid, he grew up in luxury never knowing the pressures of what’s it like to be in the reaping or to work in an early age. His mother, Mathilda Gillian is one of the top plastic surgeons in the Capitol, she is also known as the one that President Snow calls for whenever he needs something done to his face or body.
His father, Claude Gillian is a well known surgeon and medical researcher, he has treated countless patients and created drugs and vaccines that are currently being used all over Panem today. He also has an older sister and only sibling, Azula Gillian, which is 5 years older than him.
Even though their parents were really busy they always take their weekends off to spend it with him and his sister. They were encouraged by their parents to always speak their mind and always tell the truth. Inside the common room of Gillian Manor, up above the fireplace mounted on the wall was their family motto “Numquam mentiri” which translates into “We never lie” can be seen engraved on a solid gold plaque.
Growing up with those words, Azure and Azula was always frank about their feelings and whatever they see. They were hated by many at school but they stood by their beliefs and never told a lie. They still made friends but most of them only became close to them because of the connections their parents had.
Azula was always the smart one. When they were little she would always pull apart their toys and gadgets and reinvent them into something else, she would also go around repairing broken stuff that they could easily replace. Their parents saw this as a talent and decided to nurture it by building a small laboratory beside her bedroom that she can use for her inventions. She went on to study weapons development in the Capitol University and is now a weapons researcher who is currently stated at District 2 researching about applying stealth techs to humans.
With both of his parents and sister working in the field of science for the Capitol, Azure was pressured to take the same path. Even though he was almost as smart as his sister, Azure never liked the idea of working inside a boring lab. He was always the creative one in the family. He started drawing and painting in a very young age. He was fascinated by fashion and had a really good taste in clothes. His parents and sister would always go to him whenever they need advice on what to wear during a specific occasion.
Growing up watching the games he would always cringe whenever he sees a tribute wearing an ugly outfit or costume. He would usually point out the flaws in design and what are better alternatives the stylist could have used whenever their family gets together to watch the tribute parade. After the parade ends he would always think about what the tributes wore and would create a better one in his sketchbooks. He vowed someday he will become a stylist and the whole Panem will recognize his talents.
Although his parents never said anything about wanting him to work on the field with the rest of the family he always think that they would be disappointed in him for taking another path but when the time came to tell them what he really wanted, he was relieved when his parents hugged him and said “If that’s what your heart truly wants, we won’t stop you. Never forget the words son.”
His sister already started working for the Capitol the day he entered the university to study fashion. There he met Cecil Lockheart, an equally talented designer and the only person outside his family that can stand his honesty and bluntness. He considers her as his partner in crime, they would always hangout, go out to party every night and when it’s time to study they always had each other’s backs. Azure and Cecil dated for a while but decided to end it when he realized how annoying she was. They still sleep together once in a while but they were just friends.
After finishing their studies at the university they both applied to become stylists under Ezra Klein during the 69th and 70th Hunger Games. They were rejected twice so Cecil decided to give up but Azure was persistent, he wanted to become a stylist so badly that he continued improving his designs until he was accepted for the 71st Hunger games. The newest and youngest in the group, he was ready to prove that he truly deserves his job.

“NO!” She growled at him, feeling unladylike like in the most unusual way. He would never understand how uncomfortable she was, but it wasn’t because of him, it was because of her and her problem. She could never, and never, be close to anyone. Hell, she even laid a good distance between her family. Just supporting them was enough but nothing else. Human emotions was something she never liked playing with or gambling with and with Azure, it was hell like a million gamble. A Victor and a Stylist, out for a dinner? Some one is going to drop a bomb one way or another and she doesn’t want to be around to pick up the pieces nor breaking it. She even surprised herself to be the most detached person to anyone. Axel the only exception and he was busy with his own family now. And then there was … No, she stopped herself before going even near the memory of him.
She let out a deep exhale and glared at him, her eyes so cold and detached that it would have been better if she did shoved him to the wall. “Just. Please. Stay away from me before I break your neck.” She snapped her fingers in a taunting way. This man wouldn’t be even close to her age. Now she felt sick on being somewhat like a pedophile or something. “Got it?”
Margeaux gave him a resounding “NO!” that echoed through the halls of the building. Azure felt defeated and frustrated. “Sorry. Nope. You can’t get rid of me that easy.” Failure was not an option for Azure and that’s one of his traits that landed him this job. He failed the first and second time he applied to become a stylist for the games but he never gave up, he continued improving his designs until he got accepted.
“If you really want me to stay away from you then go ahead, snap my neck. I don’t care.” There was a hint of fear in his challenge. Azure knows that he’s bitten off more than he can chew and this time she’s really gonna do it. But he didn’t care, this woman helped him create amazing designs. Designs that he couldn’t fashion by himself. But it wasn’t just about his designs, Azure wanted to know more about her. Why is she so distant? Why is she always angry? Surely there are reasons behind her actions. He wants to know the true Margeaux. “Here, i’ll lay down the truth for you. It’s either you kill me or give me a chance and unless you’re willing to get blood on your hands right now, then I guess you have no other choice. You can’t run away from me Margeaux.”

“Just good?” Azure was a bit puzzled by her reaction, it was obvious on her face that she was holding back something. He turned to Margeaux as he pocketed his phone but she was already walking away. “Come on, it was beautiful right?” He said while trying to catch up with her. “I mean usually I leave myself to the mercy of the critics but this time I just had to praise myself this time.” Azure was so excited by his work but Margeaux was still trying to be nonchalant about it.
“Why are you so hard to get Margeaux?” She was still ignoring him so he decided to make his move, Azure grabed her by the shoulders and quickly pinned her to the corridor walls. “I wanna know more about you.” She was trying to resist but for someone who once joined the games it looks like she wasn’t really trying that much enough. “Come on Marge, just dinner one night. You and me alone. Let me know more about you. I.. I’m really going crazy over here.” They were almost face to face now, he can smell the mixture of sweat and perfume on her skin. “What do you say?” He backed away slowly waiting for her response.
Margeaux temper flared inside of her skin, the imprint of Azure’s fingers on her shoulder stung and she never wanted more than to push him over to the other side. But she held back, she didn’t want to be heard strangling another Stylist. Besides, he had the talent, it sucked that he wasn’t their district’s stylist. But then again, she was glad that he wasn’t. Nobody had ever the balls to provoke her.
She could easily slid down for a bit then throw him off, but being a nice person-on this weird hour-she mildly warned him first. “Take your hands off me or else …” She didn’t want to respond to his ‘one dinner’. She had things to do. … Just things! “And I’m going to have to say No for dinner.” The side of her mouth twisted but it felt awkward and forced.
“Or else what? I know you could have taken me down like a fly back there but you didn’t.” She started walking again, Azure sighed as he followed her long strides. Clearly she was trying to get away from him and avoid the question but that didn’t stop Azure. He wanted to know this woman, she was fierce, strong, and unique, unlike the Capitol girls he was used to.
“So what? Are you saying no for now? Or no as in never?” It was a first time for Azure, usually whenever he asks someone out they would always accept but he wasn’t disappointed with Mardeaux’s answer, it only made him more curious about her. Azure tried to keep up with her pace and even though he went to the gym everyday he was starting to sweat, but not because he was getting tired it was because he was nervous. Nervous because he can’t read Margeaux’s expression, she was unpredictable.
“Hey! It’s not like your tributes are going to need you 24/7. It’s just one night Margeaux. No Peacekeeper escorts, just you and me. Wait! before you say anything…” Azure took off his wayferer sunglasses and went ahead to block her path “I want you to look me in the eyes and tell me your answer.” Azure stood his ground as he stared into her blue-green eyes.

I laugh, shaking my head as the man talks. “Well, he wasn’t only going to be a weapon. He was going to be trained to relay messages, send codes, things like that.” I shrug, “But in fighting he was suppose to be able to change into something vicious, such as a cougar, bear,…
Smiling as Azure pets Chauncie, I reply, “That would be amazing. But I doubt they’ll let him in. I just hope…” I never thought of what would happen to Chauncie if I died. “I just hope he’s given a good home….if I die,” The last part comes out a whisper and I frown, not wanting to think of losing Chauncie.
“Well.. uhmm.. If you don’t make it out there.. I’m sure your father won’t let anything happen to him.” Azure tried his best to comfort the girl, he wasn’t used talking about death but since he’s now a stylist in the games he thinks this is a good start. “And who knows.. you might be the future victor.” Azure said with a very warm smile.

“Yeah, I didn’t expect it either, honestly. Guess the games aren’t as predictable as everyone thinks. At least not recently, of course.”
The previous games had always been a career, with very few exceptions throughout the years. But recently there’s been more districts winning, like me.
It seems odd.
“Well uncertainty does give everyone an equal chance of winning. Do you have any plans for your tributes? I mean a strategy, or are you just gonna wing it?” It wasn’t his business but maybe he could give in some input, Azure does know a couple of mentors out there and he even learned thing or two about their strategies.
